We had oysters here. Fresh and yummy!
My hubby had the hamburger with ‘the lot’! It was huge!
Cheap an cheerful! And staff was friendly and accommodating!
It was a good place to have food before going to Maria Island and after!
We had the seafood basket for dinner and all the seafood was cooked just right.
Well, the fish van is at the waterfront at the harbour in Triabunna. Very busy little establishment but staff were cheerful and the wait wasn’t too long. The deep fried battered blue grenadier was yummy - came in very interesting packaging. I also got a fish stick - others in our group got potato scallops. Everybody enjoyed.
Ah the humble burger - usually such a good looking idea, but take one bite and it's a disaster. By the end of it, you've got dropped bits, some stuck to your chin and sauce dripping through your fingers down to your elbows. NOT SO with a terrific fish burger from the Fish Van! A careful construction of crumbed fish, cheese, crispy fresh lettuce, tomato and the right ratio of tartare sauce is just the ticket. No dropsies, no mess, delicious and tidy to the end, much to the dismay of the stalker seagulls. Terrific spot, eat there or find plenty of seating options in either direction. I went right and ate beside the wetland inlet. The seagulls were too lazy to follow me that far. No wonder the Fish Van just made the top 5 best fish and chips in Tassie! Small chips at $6 is more than enough, to boot.
This place has been a staple whilst coming up and down the coast for years! In the last couple of years the the quality has dropped, not significantly, but noticeably if you've been stopping by for an extended period, though not enough to have any complaints.
Unfortunately, dinner last night was a far less enjoyable experience, with the fish cooked to the point of the batter starting to burn, and the biggest travesty is that with the current potato crisis causing a mass chip shortage, that they could waste such a precious commodity by cooking a number of these to a dark brown shade also! The rest of the seafood was cooked fine, just the fish was well past done, and the chips were extremely disappointing, even my kids didn't want to finish them off!
Tasty fresh local fish & chips. Friendly fast service. We ordered the fisherman basket and it was tasty, especially the battered flathead fillets. Chips were hot and a generous portion. Seats need more umbrellas for shaded seating, imho.
Clean Amenities opposite.

This is a midway lunch for our journey to Tasman National Park.
The best in the menu is the fish and chip, very fresh fish.
Worth for the money and of course a good stop over rest and relax area.
There’s no vegan food, only chips.
A couple of sorbet ice cream flavours available (lemon and raspberry)
No vegan milk for hot drinks.
Chips 5/5
Burger 3/5
Fish and chips 5/5
The Lott burger has pineapple inside and bread is not warm but all the rest is ok ($12)
Chips are gigantic ($5)
Fish in the fish and chips tasted fresh ($12)
Right across the ferry to go to and come back from Maria Island.
Very busy but still decent wait times.
Very nice fish and chips and seafood place!
One of my fav places to go in Tasmania.
Price is affordable and all served in good portions too.
The location is nice. It can be busy before or after the ferry schedule.
Very recommended.
